Readymag is built on the idea of modularity, which means that the possibilities of the platform aren’t limited to a standard set of widgets. In this series of articles we’ll be selecting the best online tools and services that you can use with R/m to create fantastic publications. Here are the first five:
1. Online Forms
Price: Free + Paid plans (start at $14.95/mo)
Wufoo is one of the best form builder services. Don’t know why you may need any forms? As they proclaim in the promotional video: content is the voice of your website, but a good form is more like ears that can help you listen to your visitors, gather their feedback and know their interests. Wufoo allows you not only to create various forms, but it also collects and processes the responses, so you can get reports or export the raw data for any further examination. Try it next time you want your readers to sign up for a newsletter, survey them or manage a simple event registration.
2. Tagged Images
Price: Free + Paid plans (start at $10/mo)
This incredible service allows you to place ‘hot spots’ on top of any image or video. Once your reader clicks on a hot spot some piece of information appears in a popup bubble. It can be a video, a text paragraph with a caption, an e-commerce widget, or a social button. Thinglink promises that your readers will enjoy interacting with the widget, and will pay more attention to the information you provide.
Price: Free 7-day trial + Paid plans (start at $49/mo)
Have you ever tried to test how well do you know the scenes from your favorite sitcom? Or learn what color matches your personality? Remember the excitement of pressing the ‘Show the results’ button? Now you can create the same experience for your readers. Collect answers to a predefined set of questions and immediately show the results. Interact is definitely one of the best solutions for that purpose.
4. Interactive Text/Image Galleries
Price: Free + Paid plans (start at $9/mo)
Widgetic is probably one of the handiest tools that helps you easily create custom photo galleries, audio players and countdown timers using an extensive variety of customization options. Not to mention that widgets can be interactive, which makes them particularly memorable to readers. Check out their special video tutorial on how to integrate a widget into Readymag.
5. Online Broadcasting
Price: Free 30-day trial + Paid plans (start at $42/mo)
Livestream is a cloud service allowing to broadcast your events live. It supports a huge range of devices: GoPro cameras, smartphones and even Google Glass can be used to capture a video. Although it seems to be quite pricey, there are great free apps that come as part of the service. These apps will help you to capture a video from any device, edit the stream on the go, or control video input from several devices. Lifestream offers everything you may need to organize a live event broadcasting — something that experts will certainly value.
An additional bonus of this service is the free collection of events that you can embed in your publications. You don’t have to do anything at all: just find an event that is being captured by someone else and use it.
How to use these widgets
All of the services mentioned above provide an embed code that you can copy and paste into your publication using R/m’s embed widget.
